Mid Level
Structural Analyst
Role Overview
Busek is seeking a Structural Analyst to join the Design & Analysis Team. This role is primarily responsible for performing and owning structural analyses for Busek’s flight and development hardware.
The analyst will conduct structural analyses such as modal, random vibration, sine, and shock using finite element methods. Analyses are primarily performed using ANSYS; prior experience is preferred but not strictly required for candidates with strong fundamentals and relevant aerospace experience.
In addition to analysis execution, this role requires close collaboration with design engineering, test engineering, and systems engineering to support product development, qualification testing, and requirements verification.
This role is expected to independently own well-defined analyses end-to-end and to exercise engineering judgment when addressing complex, ambiguous, or first-of-a-kind problems, seeking guidance as appropriate.

Structural Analysis Execution
- Independently perform a range of structural analyses, including:
- Modal analysis
- Random vibration analysis
- High-level sine analysis
- Shock analysis
- Build and evaluate component-level and system-level finite element models (FEMs), including:
- Importing and cleaning geometry
- Defining boundary conditions and load cases
- Selecting appropriate element types
- Interpreting and exporting results
- Apply meshing best practices, including mesh refinement, quality verification, and convergence assessment
- Perform classical hand calculations and correlate results with FEM simulations to validate assumptions
- Analyze typical aerospace hardware such as brackets, interconnects, fittings, and structural subassemblies
- Demonstrate working knowledge of bolted joints, including modeling approaches and extraction of bolt forces from FEM results
- Understand mechanical material properties and assess structural risks, margins, and failure modes associated with different materials
- Convert analysis results into clear, concise technical reports suitable for internal design reviews, customer delivery, and qualification or certification documentation
- Clearly explain assumptions, methodologies, results, and conclusions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Design Coordination: Collaborate closely with design engineers to ensure hardware meets structural requirements and to influence designs early to reduce structural risk
- Test Coordination: Work with test engineers to:
- Recommend accelerometer locations
- Interpret gRMS curves and test spectra
- Correlate analytical models to test data
- Support root-cause investigations for test anomalies or failures
- Systems Coordination: Translate system-level structural requirements into analysis inputs and boundary conditions, verify compliance with requirements, and clearly communicate analysis results
- Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior analysts as needed
- Support continuous improvement of analysis methods, modeling practices, and reporting standards within the team
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench, Mechanical, SpaceClaim, and/or APDL
- Ability to differentiate between element types and model connections using 1D, 2D, and 3D elements
- Familiarity with Steinberg vibration analysis
- Exposure to or experience with thermal analysis
- Background in mechanical design or close integration with design teams
